Hazard Mapping

Designing effective prevention strategies to minimize the impact of a hazard becomes significantly more efficient when utilizing applicable and well-prepared geodata.

On the basis of geodata, hazard maps are generated highlighting information on:

  • Terrain (topography, aerial photos)
  • Natural impact data (precipitation, wind speed, etc.)
  • Behaviour of hazard phenomenon
  • Historical data of disasters within the project area
  • Quantification of the magnitude of hazard impact

Hazard maps provide a powerful tool for decision making that might include:

  • Forecasting possible range of disaster using digital simulation technology
  • Assessing potential damage
  • Implementing prevention and mitigation activities
  • Forming land use policies and identifying hazard zones
